Brent grew up in the Edmonton area and has always been involved in a wide range of sports. He started with minor hockey and baseball as a child, rugby in high school and a season of snowboarding in Fernie after university. He is currently active with rec hockey, golf (never enough!), and skiing and biking with his family.

As a father of 3 children, he was an Initiation hockey head coach with St. Albert Minor Hockey for 6 consecutive seasons, assisted with ringette and tee-ball teams and currently keeps busy driving his children to the dance school and ski hill!Brent strongly believes in the personal development, social, and team-building skills that come from involvement in sport or leisure activities. These friendships and experiences really do last a lifetime. He is honored to be involved with Sport Central and their commitment to improving access to sport for all.

Brent is a graduate of the University of Alberta and a Chartered Professional Accountant. He earned his Chartered Accountant designation with KPMG LLP in 2009, before that he was with Canadian Natural Resources Limited in Calgary for 5 years.

Wyan grew up playing hockey, baseball, golf and mountain biking. All of which he still enjoys today. This love of sport has taught him the importance of being part of a team and to appreciate the relationships that are built while learning life skills together. These fundamentals are core to his beliefs as he continues to coach minor sports as he has done in the Edmonton region for almost 25 years.

Wyan now enjoys the role of “Dad” and “Coach” with his young family and their involvement in sport. It is his desire to see the smile that he and his family have playing sports on the faces of many other children through the involvement and efforts of Sport Central.

Matthew is the Vice President of Finance for Canadian Western Bank, a TSX traded chartered bank that delivers full-service business banking, personal banking, trust services and wealth management offerings specifically tailored for business owners and their families, with operations across Canada. He has also previously served as the Chief Financial Officer for Alcanna Inc., a TSX traded retailer, and as a Senior Manager at KPMG LLP, where he obtained his Chartered Accountant designation in 2009.

Matthew grew up in rural Alberta, where participation in sports was not just a way of life but also the means to learn valuable lessons about teamwork, how effort produces results, and how being busy with sports can keep a rambunctious kid out of trouble. While he now has kids of his own that are fortunate enough to participate in sports, Matthew is passionate about ensuring that all kids are given this same opportunity.

As a born and bred Edmontonian, Alisha was raised on Oilers hockey and Eskimos football. She can’t remember how many times she watched “The Boys on the Bus” growing up, but it’s possible the word “countless” would be accurate. To the frustration of her husband, she has also become a fan of English Premier League soccer in recent years (YNWA).Alisha grew up playing competitive club soccer and continues to play soccer in a Co-Ed Rec league.

She counts herself lucky to have been able to participate in competitive sports while growing up, as the lessons she learned have had a direct and valuable impact in both her personal and professional life.

As an adult, Alisha has come to realize that the cost and sacrifice demanded by amateur sports are out of reach for many people and as a result, she has become passionate about causes that facilitate access for all children.”

Mike is one of the founding Members of the Alberta RCMP’s ground breaking Community Safety and Well-being Branch. He has an extensive background in major crime investigations, police leadership, partnership building and change management. He believes in police modernization and developing innovative solutions to the complex challenges facing society today with a focus on community capacity building and up stream solutions.

As an avid sports enthusiast, Mike firmly believes that access to sport is critical to helping Alberta’s vulnerable youth population mitigate some of the challenges they face in life.

In his spare time Mike serves as the Discipline Director for the St. Albert Raiders Hockey Committee, promoting respect and inclusivity in the program. Sport Central directly aligns with his core values both professionally and personally.

Mike is married and has 3 children that all have the privilege of playing organized sports and he wants to help Sport Central provide sport opportunities to as many of Alberta’s youths as possible.

Jessica was born and raised in Saskatoon and moved to Edmonton in 2003. While she grew up in the world of music and theatre, as a mom of two, Jessica can be found cheering her daughter on at the pool or with her son at a variety of sporting activities around the city. Seeing the importance and impact of sport in her children’s life, Jessica is excited to support Sport Central and increasing access to sport for more children.

In her professional life, Jessica’s legal practice focuses on employment law matters for Stantec’s global operations. Jessica obtained her Bachelor of Arts at the University of Victoria and her law degree at the University of Alberta.

Grant also sits as a board director for St. Albert Victim Services which is a RCMP based charitable organization that assists victims of crime and tragedy in the community of St. Albert.

Sports have always been an important part of Grant’s life. Grant has been a volunteer coach for hockey, lacrosse and baseball for the last 7 years in St. Albert and Edmonton.

Kevin currently works in a civilian role with the Edmonton Police Service as the Executive Director of Supply Services Division. Prior to this Kevin had the privilege to work at both major sport venues in Edmonton. Working with the Oilers Entertainment Group (OEG), as the Director of Guest Experience and Security, Kevin was part of the team who opened Rogers Place and contributed to leading venue operations for NHL Hockey, WHL Hockey and live entertainment. Before joining the OEG team, Kevin managed Commonwealth Stadium and was instrumental in leading stadium operations for the 2014 U20 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup and CFL Football.

Prior to his career in Sports and Entertainment, Kevin enjoyed a 25-year career as a police officer with the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) where worked in a number of areas before retiring as the Inspector of Professional Development Branch. Early in his career with the EPS, Kevin had the opportunity to connect a number of kids with Sport Central and has since that time recognized the important impact Sport Central can have on our community.

As a former coach and All-American athlete, as well as a board director for not-for-profit organizations, Stephanie brings a rich background rooted in athletics and team discipline, strong values and community service.

As a dedicated leader she is known for her passion, innovation and relentless drive to deliver results and powerful solutions to those she supports.

Stephanie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of British Columbia, is a proud Mom and loves spending time with her family and friends

Daryl has a Master of Arts, Leadership and Training and Certified Executive Coach certificate, both from Royal Roads University, Victoria, B.C., a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta and maintains both the Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) and Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designations.

Daryl has extensive experience serving on the Board of Directors of both professional/industry organizations as well as other charitable organizations.

A demonstrated record of driving organizational growth, elevating operational efficiency, and developing high-performing teams. Over the past decade, Shane has played a key role in achieving more than 30% sustained company growth by introducing scalable systems, strengthening organizational structure, and leading strategic business initiatives that position the company for long-term success.

Shane grew up playing competitive hockey, lacrosse, and mountain bike racing and is currently a minor hockey and lacrosse coach, “The sports I’ve played taught me about commitment, work ethics, and being team player. I believe I’m the person I am today due to sports.”

Previously, Gene was the Sports Director of A Channel Edmonton and has held various anchor and reporting roles across the country.

In his spare time, Gene continues to play men’s soccer and coaches soccer for youth teams.

Born and raised in northern Alberta, Janna has been active with a passion for sport that started in her backyard rink as a child to being a collegiate basketball player. A significant portion of her career focused on sport event management including Brier’s, World Men’s Curling, Olympic Curling Trials, and the Grey Cup. Following event management, Janna served as Executive Director of Edmonton Tourism successfully marketing Edmonton to the world.

Believing strongly in the power of sport, and its ability to positively shape and transform lives, Janna is genuinely grateful for how sport has impacted her life. She considers it a privilege to now be in the Executive Director role, spending her days providing opportunities for kids to participate in sport.
